Why I Created Authentic Counseling & Care

People are often surprised to hear this, but therapists go to therapy too—myself included.

I’ve spent years on my own journey of self-discovery. Luckily, I grew up in a home where mental health was supported, even if not always fully understood. That early encouragement made it easier for me to seek therapy when I needed it. And through those experiences, I learned something life-changing: growth starts with being real with yourself first.

That’s the heart behind Authentic Counseling & Care. I created this space because I believe there’s power in getting to know who we truly are.

The world pulls us in a million directions. We’re coworkers, friends, siblings, parents, and partners. And if you're also navigating the layers of identity—Black, Brown, white, LGBTQ+, nonbinary, or anywhere in between—it can feel even harder to simply be. But under all of that, there's still you. And knowing yourself is the foundation for peace, self-trust, and long-term growth.

Therapy helped me get there. It taught me how to challenge old beliefs, quiet the inner critic, and show myself compassion while doing the real, uncomfortable work of change. That’s the same energy I bring to my clients, especially those seeking online therapy in Virginia and North Carolina and looking for affirming mental health support.

If you find yourself asking the below questions, then you’re not alone, and you’re in the right place:

·       “Who am I, really?”

·       “What do I believe?”

·       “When do I feel most like me?”

My goal is to help you explore these questions with honesty and care. Because when you know who you are, you're better equipped to handle anything life throws your way.

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to show up and be real.
